Basil: maintenance tips
An easy-to-grow herb, basil grows well in pots or in the ground. Its bright green leaves are appreciated for their strong flavour.
Common name: Basil
Exposure
Prefers full sun exposure.
Watering
Water regularly. Does not tolerate excess water or drought.
Planting
Sensitive to cold, plant it when all danger of frost has passed in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Prefers to be sheltered from the wind.
Fertilization
During the summer, fertilize once a month with an all-purpose liquid or water-soluble fertilizer.
Harvest
Harvest young shoots as needed. To avoid early dieback, leave a minimum of 4 to 5 rows of leaves per stem. Handle foliage with care, as bruised leaves easily turn black.
